I’ll See You in the Morning

Rolling from some other place;

Rainy night’s deceptive face.

While you and I lay here a-flush,

Warm in our electric rush.

I see your eyes are heavy;

They’ve never been robbed before.

I see your hands are bruised and beaten,

From beating on my door.

I’ll let you in, but never again;

I’ll be your lover and your friend,

I’ll walk with you down boulevards,

I’ll make you smile when life is hard.

And if some day we walk away;

Be sure to take your pleasure.

But if not, then we shall plot

To do this dance forever.

Now drift, my sweet,

To familiar streets;

While the day outside is dawning.

Sleep well, my love,

My perfect dove,

I’ll see you in the morning.
