The elephant in the housing crisis – a letter

Reader Will made an interesting point when responding to Luke Perry’s latest article, “The only retirement plan for millennials is the grave”:

One of the major factors responsible for the housing crisis facing millennials is the complete abandonment of any pretence of immigration control over the past two decades, since Anthony Blair's Government decision to "rub the Right’s nose in diversity and render their arguments out of date".

You cannot add over 10million additional people to a country of our size without there being massive issues over housing. There was no way that any housing programme was ever going to cope with that level of increase – we were never going to build a new Birmingham ever two years, and with all of the necessary associated infrastructure and facilities.
