The burden of labels
BOYS are facing many problems in schools and across society today. Our new report at the Family Education Trust – “Boys and the Burden of Labels” – looks at these in detail.
Instead of celebrating all that is good about masculinity, much of the teaching in schools tells boys that if they display traditional masculine traits, such as wanting to provide for their family, they are on a slippery slope to becoming a sexual predator. Some external providers even tell boys that if they don’t want to talk about their feelings in the same manner as girls, there’s something wrong with them.
The new chancellor, Rachel Reeves, recently announced that she would “improve the lives of women and girls”, while ignoring half of the population. Just because some men are violent towards women doesn’t mean that all men and boys should be treated as violent predators.
