Storming Capitol Hill was wrong
All violence needs justification, and there is no justification for the storming of Capitol Hill. Based on empty lies and baseless conspiracy theories a number of people have stormed various Federal buildings in America in an attempt to overturn a democratic election illegally.
There is no justification for these wanton acts of violence; the US is one of the freest nations on the planet and any move toward authoritarianism is more imagined than real. The scenes of the mob storming the building look more like looters taking advantage of a riot than any kind of ‘protest’. This uncivilised and disgraceful act was carried out by two groups of people; those who buy into Trump’s cult of personality, and are bitter that he lost, and so-called ‘boogaloo boys’ who want nothing more than a second American civil war.
All in all, this episode shows that when chaos erupts there will always be those who will revel in it, even if it means their own destruction. I worry about a culture and a nation that lacks restraint or wisdom. Without either a country cannot maintain itself, it will flounder in disaster and in times of peace it will through its own stupidity create its own disasters that it will not be able to clean up.
As Lincoln said a house divided against itself cannot stand and in America I see no hope of reconciliation. Of course when the pandemic is over and the depression hits, it will hit hard. Whatever happens, it will not be good.
